In the Qing Dynasty, the papers from Provincial Examinations will be sent to the Board of Rites on the day of release post-examination. The Board of Rites and the Hanlin Academy will choose the best and most elegant papers for imperial view, as well as for exemplar essays. These papers are called the Selected Papers. The same process occurs for Metropolitan Examination.
